About the work:
The Cockatrice is a legendary creature, a mix of a snake and a rooster, said to be born from the egg of a rooster hatched by a snake or a toad. This mythical being often appears in Western medieval art, heraldry, sculpture, and churches.
It shares a similar appearance to the Basilisk, but they have different origins. They both possess a deadly gaze, like the Medusa, capable of fatally affecting humans or animals. The Cockatrice's weaknesses are the crowing of a rooster, the scent of a weasel, or catching sight of its reflection in a mirror.
The piece conveys the artist's interpretation of the legendary monster, the Cockatrice. Legend has it that just a glance can cause severe harm to a person, so he gave the Cockatrice a unique appearance that is different from humans.
