About the work: This piece portrays an old dragon's final moments. The dragon, a being of great spiritual influence, is the central theme. The artwork depicts the dragon's long-held restraints being released as it peacefully approaches the end of its life. The flowing curves of the dragon's whiskers represent the slow, gentle surrender. The dragon is depicted in a weakened state, not due to external wounds, but rather through the exposed gills that signify its fragility. Initially, the design considered broken dragon horns, but ultimately the horns were kept intact to symbolize the old dragon's dignity and pride. Although the piece carries a sense of sadness, it ultimately seeks to convey a serene acceptance.
About the artist: Japanese artist Sho specializes in sculpting various small fantasy creatures using clay. In 2018, he was invited to exhibit at Shanghai WF, showcasing several charming and whimsical small pieces, winning collectors' love in China. His fantasy creatures seem to exist in the real world, vividly lifelike. This restrained naturalistic creative approach gives his works a high level of recognition, earning him a large following in the field of creature art.
