About the work:
Amida Buddha's forty-eight great vows permeate all realms. The 'Standing Mikaeri Amida’ statue, crafted and painted by the Jiang family, praises the profound wisdom of Amida Buddha.
The creation of the 'Standing Mikaeri Amida ' is inspired by a long-standing traditional Japanese Buddhist story. Once, Master Yongguan, while practicing meditation in the temple, saw Amida Buddha descend from the lotus seat, walking ahead, and turning back to say, 'Yongguan, it's late.' So, Master Yongguan followed Amida Buddha in their journey.
The statue of Looking Back at Amida Buddha exudes a serene and steadfast demeanor. Time solidifies across countless eons, radiating boundless light. The commentary on the 'Sutra on Amida Buddha' states, 'Remembering without interruption is called mindfulness in practice.' Whether walking, standing, sitting, or lying down, only this mindfulness can achieve samadhi.
The original 'Mikaeri Amida ' was made of bluestone, commonly used in folk art for stone tablets and house construction. After polishing, the stone becomes hazy with a clear texture, resonating with the theme of Amida Buddha guiding sentient beings to the Pure Land while still maintaining the theme of 'remembering without interruption.'
Color designed by Manas Jenny, the inspiration for the color design comes from the color schemes of the Northern Wei and Yuan Dynasty sculptures. The painted and gilded version of the lotus canopy shines with gold, reflecting the Pure Land where every corner is paved with golden grounds.
