About the artist: Aris Kolokontes is a renowned sculptor and creature character designer based in Athens, Greece. His passion for monster movies sparked his journey into sculpting, which began as a hobby and quickly evolved into a professional career. Aris has contributed his talents to major films such as "Victor Frankenstein" (2015) and "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" (2012), gaining recognition for his exceptional creativity and skill in character design. His work continues to captivate and inspire audiences worldwide.
About the work: The bat creature bust came to life during a morning sculpting session with a friend back in 2010. We were experimenting with this new water-based clay from the US called WED clay. I didn't have a specific design in mind and was just freestyling, but the piece wasn't coming together. Then, I decided to add a pair of large, bat-like ears, and—voilà!—the sculpture suddenly had direction and personality. I was finally thrilled with the result. This bat creature bust has since become a fan favorite and remains one of my best-selling pieces, if not THE best. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do!
