About the work:
I finished this piece in 2013. Most of my pieces originate as idle thoughts scribbled in my sketchbooks, and this is one of those. It was a sketch of a pair of lobster claws which made up a human face when held together. I considered painting it in the colors of a living lobster (blues and browns), until I realized that, since this is a surreal piece, it was much better to go with the colors of a cooked lobster. I think the red and orange is much more eye-catching.
